American White Ibis
The American white ibis is a wading bird of coastal marshes and wetlands, recognized by its distinctive curved bill and elegant white plumage. These social birds move through grassy areas in coordinated groups, probing the earth for crabs, crayfish, and insects with remarkable precision.
In ancient Egyptian mythology, the ibis was sacred to Thoth, god of wisdom and writing. Across cultures, the ibis represents adaptability and the wisdom found in working together.
This mixed media drawing captures four ibis foraging on marsh ground, each surrounded by circles of green and gold that reflect the spirit of the bird. Birds of a feather flock together, finding strength and survival in community. The piece celebrates both the grace of individual birds and the quiet intelligence of the group.
